Beyond the River
Ann Hagedorn moved to Ripley and used historical documents to create Beyond the River. Beyond the River highlights the life of Presbyterian minister, John Rankin, who lived in Ripley, Ohio, located on the Ohio River between the slave state of Kentucky and the free state of Ohio. Rankin’s abolitionist passion was based on the theological model of Christian social activism and the idea that slavery not only harmed slaves but was also an anti-American value, tarnishing the sovereignty of free Americans.
