The Ohio Center for the Book is very pleased to announce that Adopt A Book, Inc. was selected as one of the ten winners of the 2020 Library of Congress State Literacy Awards Program! With the current pandemic, we were unable to present the award to Adopt A Book co-founders Alex Laman and Hannah Laman and president Angela Laman in-person, but we were able to have a virtual presentation. We hope you enjoy it.
Adopt A Book, Inc., headquartered in Loveland, Ohio, near Cincinnati, received $2,225 in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the promotion of literacy and reading in their local community and the state.
Each state’s Center for the Book is eligible to nominate one organization from their state, and winners are chosen from among the nominees by the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress State Literacy Awards Program is made possible through the generous support of David M. Rubinstein and is administered through the Library of Congress Center for the Book.
We extend a hearty congratulations to Adopt A Book!
About Adopt A Book, Inc.
Adopt A Book has been operating as a non-profit since December 2011 and has donated well over 175,000 new and gently-used children’s books to over 100 schools and organizations serving children in need. Additionally, Adopt A Book has begun growing personal libraries of children in their homes as well as in classrooms and has successfully donated over 100 bookshelves to families in need. What makes Adopt A Book unique is that it was co-founded by eight-year-old twins, Hannah and Alexander Laman, who have been active in ensuring all children have access to books. Their drive has encouraged other children and local businesses to give back. There are many requests from preschool programs, Cincinnati Public Schools, home-based programming, health clinics and more who receive books regularly from Adopt A Book. These books have been instrumental in assisting with encouraging children to read as well as helping to meet a curriculum requirement.
