A Great Deliverance (1988), bestselling crime novelist Elizabeth George’ first novel, introduces her popular characters Thomas Lynley, an aristocratic inspector, and Barbara Havers, the working-class sergeant, as they investigate the beheading of a farmer in the Yorkshire Moors.
The Inspector Lynley series currently numbers 21 titles, most recently Something to Hide (2022). A BBC One series based on George’s characters, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, aired for six seasons from 2001 to 2007.
George lives in Washington, where in addition to her career as a novelist, she is the executive director of the Elizabeth George Foundation, which provides grants to writers and arts organizations.
