Today’s the day!! April 8, 2024, will be a spectacular cosmic show for Ohio and most of the entire United States… IF the weather cooperates! We encourage you to experience the eclipse responsibly (Put on those official glasses to view the sun!!!) and to relive your eclipse experience with some books. You know you can’t look up at the sky for hours, so take a break and pick up a book between your viewing times. Here are some suggestions, using the eclipse both literally and metaphorically:
- Starry Night: Astronomers and Poets Read the Sky by David Levy
- Flare, Corona by Jeannine Hall Gailey
- To Keep the Sun Alive by Rabeah Ghaffari
- What About This: Collected Poems of Frank Stanford by Frank Stanford
- Stephen King: Did you know that one of the book world’s most beloved and prolific authors almost published a book called In the Path of the Eclipse? This would eventually end up being published as two books: Dolores Claiborne and Gerald’s Game!
- Looking for something shorter than a novel or collection of poetry? William Wordsworth wrote a poem commemorating an eclipse entitled simply “The Eclipse of the Sun, 1820.”
- Nightfall by Isaac Asimov
- After the Eclipse by Fran Dorricott
