John R. Adams was born July 22, 1900, in Cincinnati, son of Thomas (an engraver) and Margaret (Morse) Adams.  He earned a bachelor’s degree (1920) and a Master of Arts (1922) from the University of Michigan.  He married Jane Ford (a free-lance writer), June 26, 1923.  He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1940. Adams worked as a professor at California Statue University in San Diego and penned a number of books, including Edward Everett Hale and Harriet Beecher Stowe. Adams died April 25, 1994, in Chula Vista, CA.
